UNB Varsity Reds Teams Up with Global Mentoring Ð Students Score with 24/7 Computer Applications Support

- Initiative breaks down technology barrier, helps students use computers as tools for success -

Fredericton, New Brunswick - Sunday night, January 16th, the UNB Varsity Reds and Toronto-based Global Mentoring Solutions rallied with students at the UNB campus to kick off a new technology support service for students. The program gives UNB Varsity Reds 'round the clock access to certified computer experts for help using popular desktop applications in study and homework. As a top Red Level Partner of the UNB Varsity Reds and Associated Alumni, Global Mentoring will provide LiveTutor deskside support, valued at approximately $30,000.

"The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Athletics Program is pleased to partner with Global Mentoring in providing our student-athletes with software assistance. The academic achievements of our student-athletes is a key component to the success of our program and we believe this partnership will be a tremendous benefit not only to our students but to our coaches and support staff", commented UNB's Acting Athletic Director John Richard.

In season, athletes manage a busy schedule of classes, practice, and sporting events. Homework is completed at all hours of the day and night, making it difficult at times to find help using unfamiliar applications features for assignments that require, for example, a PowerPoint presentation or Excel spreadsheet.

With a simple click of the mouse, students can access LiveTutor experts online and pose a quick "how to" question for on-the-spot support. Experts are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Access is unlimited so students can take as long as necessary to get the help they need. Global Mentoring will provide support for popular desktop applications used by students to complete homework assignments.

"Unless an individual is majoring in a computer-related field, limited desktop skills should not be a barrier to completing homework assignments or maintaining a good GPA," notes Don Whitty, Vice President of Global Mentoring's Academic Division. "Our partnership with UNB's Varsity Reds helps participating students use applications as tools for success in work and study so they can focus on what's relevant to their chosen major."
